What Is It?

Massage Therapy is the systematic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and membranes. Registered massage therapists have gone through 2200 hours of schooling which includes anatomy, physiology, remedial exercise and massage theory.

The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain. (Massage Therapy Act 1991)

It is an ancient practice with benefits improving wellness and health in many ways. Massage therapist use a variety of techniques to better treat each patients needs. Using pressure with their hands, forearms and elbows to increase blood flow through the bodies tissue removing toxic build up and replenishing the area. As well, applying stretch and heat when needed helps gain balance, relieve ailments, rejuvinates and replenishes tissues.

A massage therapy treatment is taylored around the clients needs. This means that, to the extent possible, the client should be in control of the encounter. The massage therapist and physical setting of the practice should facilitate client comfort.
